Asian Temples
I just finished these that I started a while ago but i never finished them as we were moving house. They're basically from some very old designs I did for Kid Samurai while working at C.H.A.S.E. animation.

Paint Study Trees
Ok this all started we me having problems with a few trees in a few concepts so I thought I'd do some practice. The first BW one is a copy from Feng Zhu's study just to get a feel & practice a working technique. The other BW ones were from photos of Bonsai Trees to get some interesting shapes. I liked how most of these turned out!
This colour one was to try to get some colour going but to also study how Neil Ross is so graphical in his work I think the trunk turned out nice but I'm not so happy with the overal shape & the green.

Using what I learned above I thought I'd try to get that working in a straight painting from some pictures of normal trees I had. They came out ok but I still feel they lake form.
This last one was probably something I wouldn't normaly paint as it has so much detail o try to get right but by studying all the techniques I felt more confident in trying. I kind o liked how it turned out but I did have problems with the water, but overal I think it's a win as now I feel more confident about this kind of detail.

Thumbnail Paint Studies
I'm trying to get myself to hopefully do 2 of these a day. I don't like these ones as much as the others I did but I guess it's a learning curve, at least I hope it is.

Thumbnail Paint Studies
I was going back through some of the course I did earlier this year & saw I'd missed an exercises that corresponds with what I've been doing lately so I gave it a go I think they turned out pretty good.
I painted these extra small, so smaller than they are shown here & it really helped to not get mixed up with detail & just concentrate on value & colour with some atmosphere.

Paint Study
I've always been a fan of the concept art from the Uncharted series & the guys that do the work have their own sites, sometimes with tuts or tips on the way they work. So this really helped with this one from Shaddy Safadi hopefully I can use the tips for my future paints!

Interior Concept
I was stuck for ideas so I used a random word genorator I found basically you click start & it gives you a random sentence. So I did a few ideas then picked 2 & drew up the backgrounds for them. It was good to do as I needed some interiors to practice with. I'm quite happy with the results for a first time interiors!

Value Study
I didn't like how this turned out or maybe I'm just feeling these studies are starting to look the same. I think on the next one I'm going to use a different brush & see how I go.

BIG NEWS!!!!
I applied to get into the Imaginism Workshop back in Nov 2011! They only got back to me in the last month to have an interview. The interview went really well but I wasn't chosen for the Oct workshop but I was called back for a place in the Jan 2013 workshop!!!! So Jan 05 2013 I'll be off to Toronto for a month (very scary! for me) to learn loads of new stuff & hopefully make some life long friends.
I'm really looking forward to learning from Thierry, he seems like a nice bloke. I'm also really excited to finally find a decent place to learn to paint using paints!!!! I'll be posting updates as much as I can when I go so keep checking back peeps.
Thanks for the support

Paint Study
I did this last week I'm quite pleased how it turned out! The original model photo is from Andrew Hickinbottom but since there was no colour just value it made a great study piece. I'll be doing more of these hopefully to improve my lighting & painting skills.
No colour picking, using PS CS5. Obviously mine's on the right.

Environment of the Week #185
There a forum competition on conceptart.org where every 2 weeks they put up a brief for eveyone to do a concept for so here's my first try at an entry.
The brief was...
At the Banks of the Glowing River
There is something enchanting about this place, whether it's source of illumination is magical, spiritual, technologically produced - or perhaps it is a creation of nature itself.

Week_06
Ok this week was a little confusing but turned out to be quite easy. We were taught about colour theory & how to do a few thumbnails using it. I really liked this way of working as I found it quite relaxing & it took me away from the reality of real shapes & colours.
Next we had to go back to our paintings & improve them in all the ways we had learnt so far.

This week we needed to add colour using photo's to create the image first. I quite like how a few of these turned out so hopefully I'm heading in the right direction.
